The Curia’s participation in the elaboration of a best practice guide for the management of European supreme courts

The Supreme Court of Latvia, the Supreme Court of Lithuania, the Supreme Court of Spain, the Curia of Hungary, the University of Antwerp and the University of Ljubljana – jointly participating in a project entitled “Supreme courts as guarantees for the effectiveness of judicial systems in the European Union”, co-funded by the European Union – held the project’s final conference in Riga on 21 April 2017 with the participation of the Curia’s three-member delegation.

At the event, the Curia was represented by Mr. Lipót Höltzl, Project Manager and Head of the International Relations and European Legal Office of the Curia, Ms. Katalin Simonné Gombos, Judge at the Civil Department of the Curia and Ms. Margit Rácz, Senior Officer of the International Relations and European Legal Office of the Curia.

At the morning plenary session, the Latvian hosts reported on the project and briefly presented its outcome, the “Best Practice Guide”, which provides 52 guidelines for the management of supreme courts. At the afternoon working sessions, the participants dealt with the following two sets of topics: i. general organisation of judicial work and role of scientific and research divisions, ii. communication of the supreme courts and role in the work of councils for the judiciary.
